Barking for a dog is a means of communication with the owner, with the outside world, with dogs and other animals.  But such communication, of course, should fit into the living conditions next to a person – no one will be happy to bark at 4 o’clock in the morning or howl at the moon at midnight in the garden of UK.

There can be many reasons for a dog barking:

  • fear;
  • resentment;
  • anxiety;
  • boredom;
  • joy;
  • aggression;
  • jealousy;
  • painful sensations.

To wean a dog to bark in the yard and jump for joy at the sight of a person, it is necessary:

  • Show calmness and not react to the violent reaction of the pet. If this does not help, you need to gently push the dog away from you or go into the house;
  • When the pet calms down, you can call him or go up to him and pet him. If the dog starts barking and jumping excitedly again, abruptly stop stroking or playing with the pet. The main thing here is to be systematic so that the dog understands that only if it is calm, it will receive a caress or a game from a person.

Another method to stop unwanted behavior is to take the dog by the ears at the base at the moment of extreme excitement, squeeze it slightly and “rub”. When the dog stops barking, praise and offer a treat.

Uncontrolled barking may be evidence of insufficient socialization of the dog.  The dog needs to be accustomed to various stimuli from puppy age – the puppy should get acquainted with other dogs, cats, people and not be afraid of the street.
